We received a call from Peaches Torquay about their blocked stormwater drainage overflowing at the back of the property. They had been referred to us by another client who had a similar issue with their stormwater in Grovedale, which we had repaired earlier in the week. The owner, Luanne, was provided with a scope of work we would be performing while on site, which she was happy to book, so we allocated Loc and Alessio, our new first-year apprentice, to investigate, clear and restore the service.

Stormwater Drainage

Our team were on site for the scheduled 6.30 am booking, earlier than usual, so that we could work on the front car park drainage before opening. They started by clearing the car park stormwater pits, high-pressure jetting the service and using our CCTV drain camera to inspect the integrity of the drainage before moving on to the main issue at the rear of the property. The property was on a slight slope, so all the drainage was overflowing at the large pit in the back corner, indicating that the issue was in the main line connecting the service to the street. Most councils will have the Legal Point of Discharge for property drainage on their system but not the internal laid drainage, so we contacted The Surf Coast Shire for a discharge point and located it in the adjacent street.

Repairs to Service

The PVC curb connection was blocked and crushed where it entered the gutter, so we exposed the discharge pipe in the nature strip before safely cutting the concrete and opening the drainage to the road. By flushing the drain from the rear pit to the street with the Jetter and then camera inspecting the service, they could check for any damage in the line. We also located tree root ingress at the pit connection from the neighbouring property, which was exposed, removed, and repaired before re-flushing the entire service and repairing the street connection.

Outcome

Our team could clean, inspect, and repair the blocked stormwater service without affecting the ordinary business operations for Peaches, allowing them to trade as usual. The owners were wrapped in our service, and we scheduled our team for annual preventative maintenance to proactively prevent future blockages from build-up that would accumulate in the car park pits over time.
